Family and friends gathered Saturday to remember Daniel Dion, the Ottawa-area man found dead in a burned out car in Acapulco, Mexico, in the fall of last year.

Dion vanished while in Mexico working to promote a line of purses made by one of his companies. He was last seen alive on Oct. 23, 2010.

A week later, his body was found in the trunk of a rental car on the side of a highway north of Acapulco.

Dion, 51, was from Sherbrooke, Que., but lived near Ottawa in the town of Carleton Place.

One man has been arrested in his death and Mexican police continue to investigate.

Dion's funeral began at 1:30 p.m. ET and was held at Sacré-Coeur church in Bourget, about 55 kilometres east of Ottawa.
