Gambling dens raided in 4 Asian countries

LYONS, France, Police in China and three Southeast Asian countries have arrested 5,000 people on suspicion of running illegal gambling on the World Cup.

Interpol announced that more than 800 "illegal gambling dens" were found in China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand and $10 million seized, the BBC reported.

The international investigation conducted between June 11 and July 11 was known as Operation Soga III.

Police also confiscated cars, cellphones and other valuables.

The gambling dens handled about $155 million in bets, Interpol said. They were operating in countries where most gambling illegal but is very popular.
