York Regional Police's homicide division has taken over the case of a Markham woman missing since April.

Police said 40-year-old Fang Lin disappeared on April 21, leaving behind her 14-year-old son. Her purple Porsche Cayenne was found abandoned a few days later in a plaza on Highway 7 after she went missing and her bank accounts have gone untouched.

"We've been treating the case with the belief that there may be foul play, however, saying that, there is also nothing concrete to say that she could have disappeared of her own accord," said York Detective Al Almeida.

Lin, who was not employed, was known to frequent casinos in Ontario and Quebec, often in the VIP areas where high-stakes wagers took place. Almeida said she did have money from a previous accident settlement.

The detective also said she was known to lend money to friends and other gamblers, but fell short of calling her a "loan shark."

Almeida said Lin's son, whose father is not in the country, is in the care of a guardian at the present time. Lin's brother, who lives in China, is making arrangements to travel to Canada. Her parents also live in China.

Lin is described as Chinese, with a light complexion, 5' 3", 119 lbs. She has shoulder length brown hair, brown eyes. When last seen she was wearing a black T-shirt, black sweater and black skirt.
