Human head found in Canadian river

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, (UPI) -- A severed human head was found in the Assiniboine River in Winnipeg Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Rick Pilotte told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. he spotted the head about 3 p.m. while using binoculars to scan debris collecting around a light standard near a dock at The Forks, an historic area in downtown Winnipeg.

The discovery came the day after British Queen Elizabeth II gave a speech, and she and her husband Prince Philip attended a concert at the popular outdoor venue.
