I bought a wireless router can I use it with dial up internet?

You can actually use Microsoft internet connection sharing, but unless you are tech savvy it'll likely to end up to complex to setup. So unless you really need to save money I recommend upgrading to DSL. Your online experience is going to be significantly enhanced.

You may have wasted your money buying the router.

Setting it up like with internet connection sharing you need to keep the computer powered on that is sharing the internet though the router. So DSL is your best choice as you can shut all you computers down when not in use.
