Ice jams continue to cause problems in flood areas of Manitoba

By The Canadian Press
WINNIPEG - Sandbagging continues in Manitoba to guard against the early stages of spring flooding from the Red River.
Evacuation alerts have already been issued to 850 people from the Roseau River First Nation and Riverside, just north of the U.S. border.
Ice jams north of Winnipeg, meanwhile, have been causing water to back up which led to the evacuation of 40 homes Thursday.
Emergency measures co-ordinator Paul Guyader says firefighters began checking water levels at first light.
Guyader says sandbagging efforts are being focused in areas north of the blocked ice to prevent more homes from flooding.
South of the border in North Dakota, a dike along the Red River is leaking, causing police to order the evacuation of 150 homes in the Fargo area.
