Lee: No 'full-scale war' between Koreas

SINGAPORE, (UPI) -- There will be no war in the Korean peninsula despite the sinking by a North Korean torpedo of a South Korean naval ship, President Lee Myung-bak said Saturday.

Lee addressed a small meeting of top business executives in Singapore, the Yonhap News Agency reported. Lee also met with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who was in Singapore for a forum on international security.

Speaking to the business group, Lee urged them to invest in South Korea, a spokesman for the president said. He said the economy is about to take off again and assured them South Korea is doing its best to avoid more confrontations with North Korea.

"The South-North Korean issue should be resolved by all means but it is clearly not an easy task," Lee said. "But there is no chance of a full-scale war at all."
