ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (UPI) -- Clay Buchholz threw six effective innings and Kevin Youkilis socked a two-run homer Monday to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 win over Tampa Bay.

Buchholz (6-3) won this third straight start, during which time he has posted a 1.77 ERA. The Boston right-hander held the Rays to one run over six innings, yielding six hits, walking only one and striking out eight.

Youkilis' fourth-inning blast boosted Boston's lead to 6-0.

David Ortiz chipped in with a solo shot in the first, Dustin Pedroia snapped an 0-for-19 slump with three hits and Adrian Beltre went 3-for-4 with an RBI to help the Red Sox win for the sixth time in seven games at the start of a key series against the American League East leaders.

Rays starter Wade Davis (4-4) struggled, giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings.

Carlos Pena hit a solo homer for Tampa Bay's only run.
