MLB: Chicago Cubs 8, Arizona 3

PHOENIX, (UPI) -- Starlin Castro delivered a tiebreaking two-run single in the fifth-inning Wednesday and the Chicago Cubs went on to post an 8-3 win over Arizona.

Castro came to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in a 3-3 game and hit a sharp grounder through the hole, driving in Ryan Theriot and Marlon Byrd with the go-ahead runs.

Aramis Ramirez added a three-run blast in the ninth to ice Chicago's second straight win in a three-game series with the struggling Diamondbacks.

Ryan Dempster (7-7) notched the victory, yielding three runs on eight hits in a five-inning start. Four Cubs relievers combined to hurl four scoreless innings to make the lead stand up.

Edwin Jackson (6-7) absorbed the defeat for Arizona, which fell to 1-5 since Kirk Gibson replaced the fired A.J. Hinch as interim manager.
