MLB: Colorado 2, San Francisco 1
SAN FRANCISCO, -- Carlos Gonzalez hit a game-tying, ninth-inning triple and then scored the go-ahead run on an error Monday in Colorado's 2-1 win over San Francisco.
The Giants appeared to be on their way to a 1-0 victory when starter Jonathan Sanchez surrendered a lead-off walk to Dexter Fowler.
Closer Brian Wilson (3-2) then entered the game and Gonzalez lined a triple over the head of right fielder Cody Ross, scoring Fowler. As Gonzalez steamed into third, the relay throw from second baseman Freddy Sanchez hit Gonzalez and bounced away.
Third base umpire Mike Winters ruled that Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval impeded Gonzalez from scoring on the play and awarded him home, allowing the Rockies to deal San Francisco a stunning setback in the first of three games at AT&T Park.
Rafael Betancourt (5-1) got the win with a scoreless eighth inning and Huston Street notched his 13th save. Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa struck out nine in seven innings of one-run ball.
Jonathan Sanchez held the Rockies to one run on five hits over eight innings.
San Francisco remained 1 1/2 games behind Philadelphia in the National League wild-card chase.
