MLB: Colorado 5, Houston 1
DENVER, (UPI) -- Jason Hammel turned in his best start of the year Monday, throwing seven-plus shutout innings in the Colorado Rockies' 5-1 win over Houston.
Hammel (3-3) spent time on the disabled list with a groin injury early in the season and has been inconsistent since. But he followed a good performance last week against the Giants with a better one Monday, baffling the Astros on six hits over 7 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out three.
Manuel Corpas registered his seventh save by striking out pinch-hitter Jason Michaels to end a ninth-inning Houston threat.
Clint Barmes was 2-for-4, driving in two runs, and Brad Hawpe and Miguel Olivo each chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (3-8) gave up three runs on nine hits over seven innings to absorb the loss.
