MLB: Detroit 7, Minnesota 5
MINNEAPOLIS, (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Raburn each had two hits and two RBI Monday and the Detroit Tigers took the AL Central lead with a 7-5 win over Minnesota.
Cabrera's two-run double in the first inning gave Detroit a lead it wouldn't relinquish and Raburn knocked in runs in the second and seventh frames to help the Tigers overtake the Twins atop the division standings with their 11th win in 16 games.
Brennan Boesch added a pair of RBI and Gerald Laird connected for a solo homer for the Tigers.
Jeremy Bonderman (4-5) got credit for the victory despite allowing four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. Jose Valverde picked up his 18th save after recording the final five outs.
Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya suffered what appeared to be a serious injury to his right elbow. After delivering a pitch in the eighth inning, Zumaya fell to the ground in agony, clutching his elbow, and had to be helped off the field.
Twins starter Francisco Liriano (6-6) surrendered six runs on nine hits over six innings.
Jim Thome hit a solo homer and drove in two runs for Minnesota.
