MLB: Florida 11, New York Mets 4
NEW YORK, Logan Morrison scored the first of Florida's seven sixth-inning runs Thursday and doubled in the last two, leading the Marlins past the New York Mets 11-4.
Florida won its second straight and crawled within 8 1/2 games of division-leading Atlanta in the National League East.
The Marlins rallied from an early four-run deficit, the comeback starting when Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Florida then sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth while producing seven runs on six hits.
Morrison was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and soon scored on a double by Dan Uggla. Single runs followed on a sacrifice fly by Wes Helms, a ground-rule double by Brett Hayes, an infield single by Donnie Murphy and a base hit by Cameron Maybin.
Morrison came up again with two on and two out and his double brought home both runners for a 9-4 lead.
Anibal Sanchez (11-8) held the Mets to four runs despite giving up nine hits and walking five in five innings. He became the unlikely winning pitcher when the Marlins produced their big inning.
Jonathon Niese (8-6) allowed seven runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. He struck out eight.
