LOS ANGELES, Johan Santana allowed a run over seven innings Friday and Jason Bay had a bases-loaded double, pushing the New York Mets past the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1.

New York scored four times in the eighth to break open the game and produce its second win in nine tries since the All-Star break. The Mets had been held to four runs or fewer in their previous 13 games.

Santana (8-5) gave up five hits with four strikeouts. He has gone at least seven innings and given up one run or fewer in each of his last five starts.

David Wright drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to give the Mets a 3-1 lead and after New York loaded the bases later in the inning, Bay cleared them with a double to center.

Vicente Padilla (4-3) absorbed the loss despite allowing only two runs, one earned, on six hits in seven innings.
