KANSAS CITY, Mo., (UPI) -- Scott Podsednik hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning Thursday that rallied the Kansas City Royals to a 5-2 decision over Houston.
The Astros scored twice in the first and could manage only four hits the rest of the way against four Kansas City pitchers.
Kansas City trailed 2-0 heading into the seventh and the first two batters in that inning were retired by starter and eventual loser Brett Myers (4-5).
The Royals, however, scored a run on consecutive singles by Mike Aviles, Wilson Betemit and Yuniesky Betancourt, and then Podsednik hit a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right for his third homer.
Kansas City won for the third time in four games.
The win went to Victor Marte (2-0), who worked an inning of relief. Joakim Soria allowed two singles in the ninth before picking up his 16th save.
