MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 9, Chicago Cubs 7
LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Russell Martin's three-run homer in the second put Los Angeles in front Friday and the Dodgers built a six-run lead before holding off the Chicago Cubs 9-7.
Chicago scored twice in both the eighth and ninth innings and Tyler Colvin came up as the potential tying run before Jonathan Broxton struck him out to end the game.
Casey Blake and Andre Ethier had two RBI each for the Dodgers, who along with Colorado moved within two games of San Diego in the National League West. Colorado rallied to defeat San Diego earlier in the evening.
Chad Billingsley (7-4) halted a five-start winless streak with a seven-inning effort. He gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out nine.
Ted Lilly (3-8) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. In his last two appearances, Lilly has given up 18 hits and 14 earned runs.
The Cubs have dropped the first two games of the series.
