MLB: Minnesota 5, Seattle 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Jim Thome and Alexi Casilla each hit a two-run homer Friday and the Minnesota Twins won their sixth straight with a 5-3 decision over Seattle.

The Twins remained 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.

Thome hit his 13th home run of the year in the second and Casilla hit his first of the campaign, the eighth of his career, in the fifth.

Minnesota built a 5-0 lead before Seattle got back in the game with a three-run sixth that featured a two-run single by Josh Wilson.

Jesse Crain came on in relief of Scott Baker and ended the sixth-inning threat by retiring the only two batters he faced. The Minnesota bullpen held the Mariners to two hits over the final 3 2/3 innings and Matt Capps worked the ninth for his 27th save.

Capps was obtained from Washington Thursday for two minor league players. Baker (9-9) got the win despite giving up seven hits and walking four.

Doug Fister (3-7) allowed five runs on five hits in five innings to take the loss. He has not won since May 14.

The Mariners have dropped five in a row. Minnesota's winning streak is its longest of the season.
