MLB: Minnesota 7, Chicago White Sox 6
MINNEAPOLIS, Danny Valencia drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning infield single Wednesday and Minnesota came from behind twice to defeat the Chicago White Sox 7-6.
The Twins won their sixth in a row, captured their ninth straight at home and increased their lead over the second-place White Sox in the American League Central to five games -- Minnesota's largest lead of the season.
The Twins overcame a 3-2 deficit in the third on an RBI single by Jason Kubel but Chicago moved back in front with two in the fifth. Joe Mauer got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth with a homer and the Twins took the lead for good with a three-run sixth.
Michael Cuddyer singled to open the inning against Gavin Floyd (8-10), Jim Thome walked and Delmon Young doubled in Cuddyer. Valencia then delivered his infield hit, driving in Thome, and Young scored on a sacrifice fly from J.J. Hardy.
Jeff Manship (1-0), who has made multiple trips between the majors and minors this season, picked up his first win of the season with 1 1/3 innings of relief. It was his second major league victory.
Minnesota had a two-run lead going into the ninth but Chicago scored on Gordon Beckham's double and Juan Pierre's one-out single. Matt Capps then got the next two batters on groundouts for his 31st save.
Chicago has dropped four in a row.
