PHILADELPHIA, A single by Wilson Valdez with one out in the 11th inning Thursday brought in Cody Ransom from second and gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 3-2 win over Arizona.

The Phillies ran their winning streak to eight games and completed a big day that saw them acquire 10-year veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt from Houston for three players. Oswalt will start Friday when Philadelphia opens a series with Washington.

Philadelphia crept within 2 1/2 games of division-leading Atlanta in the National League East. The Braves lost to Washington earlier in the day.

The Phillies loaded the bases with two out in the 10th without scoring but got to Esmerling Vasquez (1-4) in the 11th.

After Jayson Werth struck out to open the inning, Ransom walked on a 3-2 pitch and moved to second on a single by Carlos Ruiz.

Valdez then hit a 1-0 offering into center to score Werth and bring the Phillies their 10th straight home victory. Arizona has lost seven in a row.

Philadelphia let a 2-0 lead get away, but then got three perfect innings of relief from J.C. Romero, Brad Lidge and Jose Contreras to hold Arizona in check. Contreras (5-3) worked the top of the 11th to get the win.
