SAN FRANCISCO, (UPI) -- Mat Latos pitched a 1-hitter and drove in the game's only run in the San Diego Padres' 1-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Latos (3-3) didn't walk a batter and struck out six in collecting his first complete game and first shutout. He had a perfect game going until Ed Whiteside reached base on a sixth-inning single that went off Latos' glove for an infield hit.
San Francisco starter Jonathan Sanchez (2-3) allowed just three hits over eight innings, but even that wasn't enough to allow the Giants to escape their fifth loss in six games.
Two of the Padres' hits came in the fifth inning when Lance Zawadzki doubled and came around on a single to right by Latos.
