SAN FRANCISCO, May 13 (UPI) -- Clayton Richard allowed two runs over seven innings Wednesday and helped San Diego win another series with a 5-2 decision over San Francisco.

The Padres have won seven of their last eight series and also have beaten the Giants in six straight meetings.

Richard (2-2) worked around seven hits, walking two and striking out two. He lost his first two decisions of the season, but is 2-0 with an ERA of less than 3.00 in his last five appearances.

San Diego has won 18 of its last 24 games to take over the lead in the National League West.

Jerry Hairston doubled home Will Venable in the fourth to put San Diego in front for good at 3-2. Yorvit Torrealba had two RBI, bringing home runs with singles in the second and sixth innings.

Matt Cain (2-2) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over 6 2/3. He also walked six.

Heath Bell worked the ninth to collect his 10th save.
