MLB: Texas 10, Boston 9 (11 innings)

ARLINGTON, Texas, Nelson Cruz homered off Tim Wakefield on the first pitch of the 11th inning Friday, finishing off a huge rally and giving Texas a 10-9 win over Boston.

Prior to this season, the 18-year veteran Wakefield (3-9) had not come out of the bullpen since 2004. This was his eighth relief appearance of the year and he was the eighth pitcher to take the mound for the Red Sox against the Rangers.

The homer by Cruz was the ninth in the game, which saw Texas rally from an early 8-2 deficit. Boston built the big lead with a seven-run fourth that featured solo homers by David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre and J.D. Drew.

Drew added another homer in the seventh that gave the Red Sox a 9-6 lead.

Mitch Moreland started the Texas comeback with his first major league homer, a two-run blast in the fourth. Michael Young and Josh Hamilton added solo shots in the fifth.

A sacrifice fly by David Murphy and an RBI double by Bengie Molina in the seventh brought Texas within one and the Rangers tied it in the eighth when Josh Hamilton reached on a two-out double and scored on a base hit by Vladimir Guerrero.

Darren O'Day (4-2), the sixth Texas pitcher, got the win with a perfect top of the 11th.

Texas starter Tommy Hunter and reliever Scott Feldman combined to give up eight runs on 10 hits over the first 5 2/3 innings.
