MLB: Boston 7, Los Angeles Angels 5
BOSTON, Kevin Jepsen hit Daniel Nava with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run in the seventh Wednesday and Boston held on for a 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The Red Sox overcame a 5-2 deficit after John Lackey had labored through a 119-pitch, seven-inning effort. Lackey (11-7) gave up five runs on 10 hits, but got the win when the Red Sox rallied.

Adrian Beltre started the Boston comeback with a two-run homer off Scott Kazmir in the fifth and the Red Sox took the lead in the seventh against Jepsen (2-3), the third Los Angeles pitcher.

Victor Martinez opened the inning with an infield single and went to third on a double by David Ortiz. After Beltre struck out, Mike Lowell drew a walk to load the bases.

Jepsen then threw a wild pitch allowing Martinez to score and J.D. Drew was intentionally walked to again fill the bases. That is when Jepsen hit Nava with an 0-2 pitch to bring home the go-ahead tally.

Boston improved to 9-0 against the Angels this year. Los Angeles has dropped three in a row and again missed a chance to move closer to division-leading Texas in the American League West. The Rangers continue to lead by 71/2 games.

Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth and collected his 30th save. He is the first pitcher in major league history to have at least 30 saves in each of his first five full seasons.

Alberto Callaspo highlighted the Los Angeles offense with a three-run homer in the fifth.
