MLB: Texas 13, Pittsburgh 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, (UPI) -- Michael Young and Nelson Cruz combined to drive in seven runs Wednesday and Texas put together a relentless 17-hit attack in blasting Pittsburgh 13-3.

The Rangers won their 10th straight game, their longest such streak since they established a franchise record with 14 victories in a row nine years ago. Pittsburgh's team record road losing streak was extended to 13 games.

Young gave Texas a quick lead with a two-run homer in the first and then added a two-run double while the Rangers were scoring six times in the fourth. Cruz had an RBI single during the five-run Texas second and contributed a two-run single in the big fourth inning.

Elvis Andrus reached base safely in his first five plate appearances, which came during the first five innings.

The offensive onslaught was put together without Josh Hamilton and his .339 batting average in the lineup. He was given the night off and will try Thursday to extend his 17-game hitting streak.

Texas starter Dustin Nippert, who filled in for the injured Rich Harden, was removed from the game after throwing 82 pitches in the first three innings. Alexi Ogando, who has been in the majors for less than two weeks, came on to win his third game in three appearances.

Matt Harrison worked the final three innings and thus qualified for his first save despite the one-sided nature of the game.

Paul Maholm (4-6) retired only three batters and took the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits.
