MLB: Texas 4, Los Angeles Angels 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 18 (UPI) -- Nelson Cruz hit a two-run double in the third inning and the Texas Rangers hung on Monday to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3.

Cruz's hit capped a four-run Rangers outburst that also featured a sacrifice fly by Michael Young and an RBI double from Ian Kinsler.

Texas parlayed the 4-0 lead into a win with the help of three innings of hitless relief from Dustin Nippert, Darren Oliver and Naftali Perez, who notched his 10th save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.

Starter Derek Holland (2-0) got the win after yielding three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The Angels got a two-run homer from Mike Napoli in the fifth to pull to within 4-2, and Torii Hunter's solo shot in the sixth shaved the Rangers' lead to one.

Scott Kazmir (2-4) was saddled with the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits in seven innings.
