SEATTLE, David Murphy broke up a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the seventh Thursday and the Texas Rangers went on to blank Seattle 6-0.

The Rangers won the final two games of the three-game series. They boosted their lead over idle Oakland in the American League West to 8 1/2 games in advance of a three-game set with the Athletics this weekend.

Felix Hernandez (7-9) was locked in a duel with Tommy Hunter going into the seventh, but Vladimir Guerrero singled to open the inning and Murphy hit the first pitch over the left field wall. A walk to Mitch Moreland and singles by Andres Blanco and Elvis Andrus accounted for another run later in the inning.

The Rangers added three more in the eighth. Nelson Cruz drove in the first run of the inning with a double and scored the last one on a wild pitch.

Hunter (9-1), who lost for the first time this season in his most recent outing, gave up eight hits and struck out five over 6 1/3 innings to get the win.
