SORRENTO, Fla. -- A 17-year-old Lake County boy was found dead inside his home Saturday, hours after he was seen with bruises and abrasions on his body and a call was made to 911 from his cell phone, authorities said.

Hugo Can, who attended Mount Dora High School, was found dead Saturday afternoon in a home on County Road 437 in Sorrento.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, family members told detectives that Can left his home around 10:30 p.m. Friday and returned at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Family members said they noticed that he had abrasions and bruises on his legs, arm, and face when he returned home, according to deputies.

Can's mother told detectives that after returning home, Can took a shower and complained that his head hurt, and he went to bed, deputies said. His mother found him dead in his room while checking on him around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to deputies.

Detectives said a call to 911 was placed from Can's cell phone around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The call went to the Orange County Sheriff's Office and a female requested help for a friend before the call was disconnected, deputies said.

No information surrounding the nature or cause of Can's injuries was given, deputies said.

An autopsy was performed on Can, but his cause of death has not yet been determined.

Detectives are working to speak with contacts in Can's cell phone in hopes of learning information as to his whereabouts and who he was with late Friday night.

Anyone with information about Can is urged to call the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
