More Local HD, MPEG-4 Expansion for DISH

On Thursday, DISH Network expanded its local HD channel slate and released details concerning its ongoing push to deliver MPEG-4 video to customers.
On the local HD front, DISH said it is now offering high-def stations in eight additional markets: Charleston-Huntington, W.Va.; Cincinnati; Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, Pa.; Jacksonville; Lexington, Ky.; Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Ark.; Louisville; and Wichita Falls, Texas, and Lawton, Okla.
With the additions, DISH Network now offers local channels in 84 markets reaching 76 percent of U.S. TV households.
In addition to that news, DISH said it will begin transmitting MPEG-4 video capabilities to consumers in nine additional markets in the Eastern half of the United States. Those who sign up for DISH Network in 61 markets will receive all standard and high-def programming in the MPEG-4 standard, which provides stronger picture quality.
The markets with the MPEG-4 capabilities include the new local HD markets listed above and Springfield, Mo.
