Mountain lion spotted on golf course

BOZEMAN, Mont., (UPI) -- Animal authorities in Montana said a mountain lion was spotted wandering near a senior living center before moving on to a nearby golf course.

Kathy Middleton, a Bozeman animal control officer, said the animal was first spotted early Friday wandering near the Aspen Pointe senior living center and was later reported by callers to have moved on to the nearby Valley View Golf Club, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported Monday.

"They think it may be out in a tree somewhere on the golf course right now," Middleton said Friday. She said no additional sightings had been reported after the mountain lion moved on to the golf course and the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks was notified of the predator's presence.

Middleton said the mountain lion was likely just passing through the area.

"He's moving," she said.

Joe Knarr, an official with the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, said mountain lion sightings in the area have increased over previous years, but that is not necessarily a sign of increased presence.

"Cats are always in the area here," he said.
