New Satellite Launches for Canadian Sat TV Service

Telesat's Nimiq 4 satellite was carried into orbit during a weekend launch mission that took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The satellite is leased to Bell TV. The spacecraft will enable the Canadian satellite TV company to expand digital video services, including more HDTV, specialty channels and foreign language programming.

Nimiq 4, which will be located at 82 degrees, is equipped with 32 high-power transponders in Ku-Band and eight in Ka-Band.

Nimiq 4 was launched on a Proton Breeze M rocket. EADS Astrium manufactured the bird and International Launch Services provided mission management of the launch.
