SAN DIEGO, Aug. 22 -- Victor Butler stripped the ball from Jonathan Crompton with under 4 minutes left Saturday, producing a safety that gave Dallas a shaky 16-14 win over San Diego.

The exhibition game was a ragged affair for both teams. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo and San Diego's Philip Rivers were both intercepted on their first offensive series. The Cowboys were flagged 10 times for 65 yards.

Romo saw seven of his 11 passes fall incomplete and he managed just 30 yards, including a 9-yard TD pass to Miles Austin.

Rivers, who scored on a 1-yard run, managed an 11-of-15 performance for 125 yards.

The Chargers had a prime scoring opportunity squirt away when Darren Sproles fumbled on the Dallas 8 with 3 minutes left in the first half.
