Norwegian Cruise Line orders two ships
MIAMI, -- Norwegian Cruise Line said Monday it had placed an order for two 4,000-passenger ships with German shipmaker Meyer Weft GmbH.
The two ships will cost of total of around $1.7 billion, AOL Travel said. They would be launched in April of 2013 and 2014, The Miami Herald reported.
The cruise line recently launched the $1.2 billion Epic, which was built at the STX shipyard in France. The Epic can entertain 4,100 passengers but it has been criticized as a wide, boxy ship, the newspaper said.
"We did modify the look and feel of the ship to a more traditional ship," said Norwegian Cruise Line Chief Executive Officer Kevin Sheenan.
"I think the industry and the overall environment is going to be slow growth over the next few years Most people believe as you get into 2013 things will really start to move in the right direction, so I think that timing works well for us," he said.
