Oscar De La Hoya Suspended By Nevada Until February!!
DUE to the battering he received from Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which prohibited the Golden Boy from engaging in any fight until Feb. 8.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer informed insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that the commission made the decision to suspend De la Hoya until Feb. 8 following the usual post-fight medical examination on the Golden Boy.
The results/injuries report sent to Standard Today by Kizer stated that De la Hoya could have “no contact” until Jan. 22, meaning he could not spar until after that date. No other details were provided.
Pacquiao beat De la Hoya via an eighth-round TKO at the MGM Grand on December 6.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is currently preparing what could be his biggest bash ever—his 30th birthday on Dec. 17 in his hometown of General Santos City with President Arroyo as among his very special guests.
Also planing in for the celebration is Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach, who appears to be a cinch to win his third Trainer of the Year award, while Pacquiao is certain to be named Fighter of the Year for his magnificent performance in systematically demolishing De la Hoya in eight rounds.
Former World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz, who lost his title to Pacquiao in a ninth-round battering last June, told Standard Today in an overseas telephone conversation from Chicago that he had accepted an invitation from Pacquiao to attend his birthday.
In a conversation at the Mabuhay Lounge of Philippine Airlines prior to his departure from Manila for GenSan, Pacquiao said both he and Roach worked together on the highly successful fight plan. “From time to time, I made suggestions which coach accepted. That’s why we were so successful. I trained so hard for two months and did everything possible to prepare for the fight, but the rest was in God’s hands.”
He also credited his strong belief in God as both a deciding factor and a great motivator.
Pacquiao also told Standard Today he also invited Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera to attend his birthday bash, but was not sure whether the Mexican legend could make it.
