Pakistani court eases Facebook ban
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, (UPI) -- The Pakistani government can lift its ban against Facebook if it takes steps to block objectionable material, a court in Islamabad ruled Monday.
Pakistan blocked Facebook May 19 after a group on the social networking site urged people to draw depictions of the prophet Mohammed, an action that offended devout Muslims, CNN reported.
The Pakistani Telecommunication Authority on June 15 is to tell the court how it plans to block potentially offensive material, said Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali, a spokesman for the Islamic Lawyers Movement, which initially petitioned the court to block Facebook.
In Bangladesh, the government blocked Facebook during the weekend after satirical cartoons of the prophet and political leaders in Bangladesh were posted to the site.
