AUSTIN, Texas, -- Salam Fayyad, prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, was hospitalized after a heart attack while at his son's college graduation in Texas, officials say.

Ghassan Katib, a spokesman for the authority, said Fayyad experienced chest pains Sunday. Fayyad was in Austin, where his son received a degree from the University of Texas.

A spokeswoman for Seton Medical Center said Fayyad was listed in good condition early Tuesday.

Katib said doctors at the hospital found and corrected a blocked artery.
Fayyad, 67, has been prime minister since 2007. He is a member of neither Fatah nor Hamas and advocates providing security, good government and economic opportunity for Palestinians as the road to independence.
