Paltrow says she has vitamin D deficiency
LONDON, (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who lives in London, has told her fans she has been diagnosed with dangerously low levels of vitamin D.

On her blog, Goop, Paltrow said a bone scan after she suffered a fracture five years ago found she was in the early stages of osteopenia.

"This led my western/eastern doctors in New York to test my Vitamin D levels, which turned out to be the lowest they had ever seen (not a good thing)," she said.

Paltrow said she was curious because she was told to get more sunlight -- a contradiction to warnings about the dangers of over-exposure to the sun. She posted an article from one of her doctors, Frank Lipman, urging "safe, smart and limited sunscreen-free exposure to the sun."

There has been some speculation that Paltrow's macrobiotic diet contributed to her bone problems, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Paltrow, who won a Best Actress Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love," is married to Chris Martin of the musical group Coldplay and has two children.
