Police: Burglar fled on getaway mower

KENNEWICK, Wash., (UPI) -- Police in Washington state said a suspected burglar who picked the wrong getaway vehicle was arrested while fleeing the scene on a riding mower.

Kennewick police responding to an 8 a.m. Tuesday call about a burglary spotted Nathan Watkins, 31, riding atop a Toro riding mower reported stolen from a nearby home and pulling a trailer filled with other lawn care equipment and a second riding mower, the Tri-City Herald, Kennewick, reported Thursday.

Watkins, a convicted bank robber sentenced to nearly two years in prison in January 2009, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Benton County Jail.
