Procter & Gamble sign on for more Olympics
CINCINNATI, Procter & Gamble said Wednesday it has reached a sponsorship deal with the International Olympic Committee that starts with the 2012 Summer Games in London.
The deal extends through five Olympics, ending in 2020, the company said in a statement.
A dollar sum for the advertising spree was not announced, but P&G said it would also donate $50,000 to help train "elite U.S. athletes."
The deal is an extension of P&G's attachment to the Olympics, which began with the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada. At those games, P&G sponsored a popular meeting place for U.S. athletes called the P&G Family Home, which provided laundry facilities and places to gather with family members.
The advertising deal gives P&G permission to use the Olympic symbol of enjoined rings on a variety of products and continues the company's association with a family event. The firm said in a statement it has signed commitments with the mothers of six "high-profile Olympians," including the mothers of U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, Jamaican runner Usain Bolt and Chinese beach volleyball player Xue Chen.
