Report: Panthers' Smith breaks arm again
CHARLOTTE, N.C., (UPI) -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has broken his left arm for the second time in six months, team sources say.
Quoting unnamed sources, The Charlotte Observer reported Monday Smith was playing flag football Sunday when he broke his arm, which had already been surgically implanted with a plate to help it heal from the last break.
Smith was first injured in December while making a touchdown catch in a 41-9 win over the New York Giants. The newspaper said the latest break is near the same area as the first.
Smith's agent said the star receiver may miss the July 26 start of training camp but should be ready for Carolina's Sept. 12 season opener against the Giants.
Smith hauled down 65 passes last year for 982 yards and seven touchdowns, his lowest totals since 2004.
