BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- A Broomfield couple didn't have a roof over their heads for Thanksgiving, after part of the roof on their house was removed by mistake.

It happened Tuesday morning. A contractor removed most of the roof at 675 Quartz St. The homeowners think the work was supposed to be done a block away at 675 Poppy St because that home was permitted for a roofing job.

By the time the homeowners found out their roof was being torn up, the crew was gone.

The roofing company's boss is out of town. But says he hopes to sort out the situation on Monday.

In the meantime, another company offered to fix the roof for free.

"When we say the story about the family with no roof for Thanksgiving, we were sympathetic to that and we wanted to help them out," said Jim Severson with Big Blue Roofing.

"It's awesome to know there are so many people out there willing to help people," said the homeowner. "It just a good feeling."
