Six die on Trans-Canada highway

GOLDEN, British Columbia, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A van and a motor home collided on the Trans-Canada highway near Golden, British Columbia, killing six, police reported.

An officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told The Calgary Herald the crash Sunday was among the worst he could recall.

Canadians had a long weekend and Corporal Dan Moskaluk told the paper "we're just hoping that we don't get further fatal collisions."

He said six people died at the scene when their minivan crossed the center line and hit the motor home head-on. Four of the six killed were not wearing seat belts, the RCMP said.

Police said it appeared fatigue, not drugs or alcohol, was responsible for the collision.
