Slasher at large after Spokane slaying
SPOKANE, Wash., Police Sunday scoured Washington's Spokane Valley for a man they say allegedly broke into a woman's home overnight, killed her and injured two of her sons
Jan Demeerleer, 39, was identified by Spokane Valley police as the former husband or boyfriend of the woman who was killed.
Police said in a written statement that the woman's 17-year-old son called 911 and told dispatchers he woke up early Saturday as an intruder slashed him on the neck with a knife.
The teen fought off the assailant, then found his mother dead in the kitchen and one of his twin 9-year-old brothers injured. The nature of the wounds were not released, but police said the younger boy was on life support Sunday.
The motive for the assault was not immediately known. Detectives were contacting family, friends and co-workers of Demeerleer for clues as to where he might be.
