COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- It's medical marijuana in a bottle, and now a new business will be making it in the Springs. The company is called Canna Cola and has plans to manufacture several kinds of medical marijuana soda. The company expects to have its products on the shelves of Colorado dispensaries by February.

The company isn't up and operating yet, but Clay Butler, a partner in Canna Cola, tells KRDO Newschannel13 that all the plans are in place.

"We have all our partners lined up," said Butler, who lives in California.

There are several other medical marijuana sodas already for sale, but the marketing for Canna Cola is unique. Each different bottle is modeled after a real soda, so there are flavors like Orange Kush, Doc Weed, Grape Ape and original Canna Cola.

Butler said he wants to market the products like Snapple or Coca Cola would.

Dispensary owners said soda pot is a big seller, especially among elderly people and those who have ailments that prevent them from smoking.

"We have quite a few people who really rely on the sodas on a day-to-day basis because of the fact that they can't smoke where they need to," said Shane Schlaufman, owner of Mountain High Medical Caregivers.

Schlaufman said that there are low-dose sodas and some he compares to liquid tranquilizers. Canna Cola said it's products will be mild, comparing them to light beer.

The other medical marijuana sodas are bottled in Colorado, but none in the Springs.

"I'm all for having it more local here in Colorado Springs," said Schlaufman.

KRDO Newschannel 13 is continuing to get more information about exactly when and where the Canna Cola manufacturing facility will open.
