An 18-year-old Regina woman is dead after a stabbing on the weekend and a 17-year-old girl is in custody in connection with the death.
The victim, whose name hasn't been released pending notification of family members, died at around 11:40 a.m. CST Monday, Regina police said.
She was taken to hospital early Sunday morning after being stabbed at a home on the 1000 block of Rae Street in the city's North Central area.
A family member told CBC News the attack happened while people were playing video games.
"At four in the morning, people came in and they were just playing video games and one chick started freaking out ... and started stabbing her," the relative said.
The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition.
"She wasn't looking too good," the relative said. "Her eyes were barely open. I only got to see her for five minutes. They said she wasn't going to make it through the night, but she did."
The person accused of stabbing her, who cannot be identified because of her age, appeared in court Monday morning charged with attempted murder.
The Crown prosecutor said another charge will now be laid against her.
Police said the two young women were in an altercation. After the 18-year-old was injured, she left the house and collapsed on the street.
The 17-year-old was also injured after friends of the 18-year-old allegedly intervened. She made her way to the 900 block of Retallack Street, at which time police and EMS were called. She was treated for injuries and taken into police custody.
Her next court appearance is Thursday.
In addition to the main charge, she's also charged with breaching her probation as well as breaching another court order.
