Storm deaths in Mexico raise Arlene's toll to 22

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Mexican government has raised the official death toll from Tropical Storm Arlene to 22.

Civil protection officials say the most deaths have been recorded in the central state of Hidalgo and the northern state of San Luis Potosi, with each state reporting five.

In the coastal state of Veracruz, three people were killed, including a farmer and his son who died trying to drive across a flooded bridge in a town.

In Tamaulipas, federal officials reported on Tuesday two official deaths although state officials have said five people died.

Each of the southern states of Oaxaca and Guerrero reported two deaths. And three more people died in other states.

Arlene was the first named storm of the 2011 Atlantic season.
