Two Alberta men face charges in connection with a plot to kidnap and possibly kill another man, police said on Thursday.
The suspects were arrested in Calgary on Tuesday, capping a two-month investigation into organized crime conducted by the Calgary Police Service Targeted Enforcement Unit (TEU) and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).
Both suspects are from Irricana, 40 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
Police said the case might involve a suspected arson at a northeast Calgary tattoo parlour last week, but they did not confirm the link.
The alleged victim might have been targeted because of the suspects' belief that he was connected to an alleged arson, officials said.
One of the suspects has links to the business that went up in flames, they added.
The alleged victim was not aware of the suspected plot until police alerted him. Investigators said he was known to the suspects, but that he is not suspected of any criminal activity.
The two suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit murder, police said.
