Tapes probe killing of player's girlfriend

WAUKEGAN, Ill., -- Illinois police tried for hours to get a woman to admit killing a former Chicago Bear's girlfriend and unborn baby, tapes played in court show.
Marni Yang's trial on the 2007 killing won't start until January at the earliest, the Chicago Tribune reported.
But the interrogation tapes reveal much of the authorities' case against her in the shooting death of Rhoni Reuter, football player Shaun Gayle's girlfriend.
Yang eventually cut off the three days of questioning in early 2008 by demanding to see a lawyer.
Waukegan police Detective Charles Schletz, a member of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force questioning Yang, lays out the evidence against her: That she had, by her own account, an intimate relationship with Gayle; that she was with him the night before the killing; that she admitted researching many women she thought were involved with Gayle, including Reuter; and that she bought items to build a silencer.
More than a year passed before Yang was charged with first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.
