Indianapolis —
A special needs student claims a Wayne Township school security officer broke his hip.

Luke Freeman hasn't been to school since last Thursday. That's the day he claims the officer tackled him, broke his hip and left him in pain on a concrete floor for two hours before his mother arrived.

The State Department of Education has opened an investigation into the incident. The 15-year-old 8th grader attends Sanders school. His mother tells Fox59 News her son suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is prone to panic attacks.

Luke said he was feeling anxious and needed to step into another school hallway to calm down when the officer tackled him.

"He fell down on the concrete floor," said Luke's mother, Deborah Favor. "The security officer who is over 340 lbs. used his entire weight and came down on the back of my son's leg with his knee."

A doctor confirmed Luke has a broken pelvis and may need surgery.

A spokesperson for the school district told Fox59 News an internal investigation has been launched and child protective services has been advised of the boy's injury.
