Ten charged in Ontario prison protest
KINGSTON, Ontario, Canadian police said they arrested a 10th protester Monday, a day after a large demonstration outside an Ontario prison farm that is slated for closure.
Several hundred protesters crowded outside the gates of Frontenac Prison in Kingston Sunday to prevent the removal of a herd of cattle from the farm, which is among six being shut down by the government.
Nine people were arrested on mischief charges, including a woman in her 80s, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
The dairy cows, which had been sold at auction, were eventually hauled away by trucks after police cleared the roadway.
