Thatcher keeps lead despite rough finish
ORLANDO, Fla., -- Roland Thatcher survived a rough finish to his round Saturday, emerging with the third-round lead of the Children's Miracle Network Classic in Florida.
Thatcher gave away three shots on the final two holes but still ended with a 2-under-par 70, four shots clear at 18-under 198 through 54 holes.
Thatcher's approach shot to the 17th green landed in the water, and his recovery attempt sailed well past the putting surface. He ended with a double-bogey and then bogeyed the 18th thanks to a second shot that found a bunker bordering the green.
Thatcher is seeking his first PGA Tour victory, which could earn him a two-year exemption from qualifying.
First-day leader Chris Stroud shot a 70 Saturday, holding sole possession of second place at minus-14.
Spencer Levin (67), Brett Wetterich (68), Robert Garrigus (70) and Brian Gay (71) ended up knotted in third at 13-under 203.
